  • Yayasan Tananua Flores (YTF) is an independent Flores based organisation that works to assist communities to improve their welfare; independently express their thought, opinion, and position; enhance biodiversity conservation and utilisation using the principles of sustainability, inclusivity and equality and support the empowerment of communities and other groups concerned with the biodiversity conservation. YTF focused their early work on Sumba Island and gradually began working in West Timor, and Flores Island, where the current office of YTF is. Since 1989 until now, they have already assisted 104 communities in total.

Tananua Flores Foundation has been supporting farming communities in East Nusa Tenggara, from teaching them how to plant crops to establishing effective cooperatives. In 2019, in partnership with Blue Ventures, Tananua ventured down from the highlands and headed towards the sea. They started assisting the octopus fishers from Mourongga Village and Tentadara Village – both in South Ende – to monitor their octopus catches and initiate octopus fisheries management.

In 2021, Tananua will assist two new sites in Ende and Nagekeo districts to initiate community-based octopus fisheries managament. Program replication begins with a survey of new site selection. The survey was conducted by the Tananua Foundation in April – May 2021 in 4 districts covering 9 coastal villages. Tananua also began to implement health-environment approach by addressing health issues in coastal communities. They managed to inspired 24 fishing families in Maurongga to be able to have a vegetable garden in their yard for family needs as well as make use of organic waste to become compost.
